Andreas Varady awarded Skidmore Jazz Studentship

Limerick-based guitarist Andreas Varady has been awarded the Skidmore Jazz Studentship for 2010.  This Arts Council award allows Andreas to spend two weeks at Skidmore College, upstate New York, later this summer.  The school has an outstanding faculty and will provide a great development opportunity for Andreas.

The award is open to all young jazz musicians in Ireland and the fact that Andreas has received it at the age of 12 is a reflection of his outstanding talent and application.

The picture accompanying this post was taken by Tony Rogers, andshows Andreas playing with Terell Stafford in Limerick earlier this year.  He did not look pr sound out of place in a group of experienced international performers and can only get better in the next few years.
